Descriptions
This Japanese-style hamburger steak is a well-known dish in Japanese households. Unlike a typical hamburger, this recipe uses a combination of ground beef, breadcrumbs, onions, and a few seasonings to create a light yet flavorful patty. The steak is paired with a simple ketchup-based sauce that enhances its flavor. It’s a versatile dish that can be prepared quickly, making it perfect for a weekday dinner.
Directions
1- Prepare the onion: Finely chop half an onion. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in the microwave for 2 minutes to soften the onion, then let it cool.
2- Mix the ingredients: In a bowl, combine 300 grams (10.5 oz) of ground beef, the softened onion, 20 grams (0.7 oz) of breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 3 tablespoons of milk, salt, and pepper. Mix by hand until well combined.
3- Form the patties: Divide the mixture into 2 or 3 portions and shape them into round, slightly flattened patties.
4- Cook the steaks: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the patties, cover the pan, and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
5- Prepare the sauce: Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the pan but leave the juices. Add 4 tablespoons of ketchup to the pan and stir to combine with the pan juices. Heat for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is warm.
6- Serve: Drizzle the sauce over the hamburger steaks and enjoy!
Note's
- If you want a milder flavor, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice and vegetables for a complete meal.
- Make sure to let the onion cool before mixing it with the beef to avoid cooking the egg prematurely.
