Chocolate Mousse

Descriptions

This chocolate mousse is a timeless dessert that blends the deep flavor of dark chocolate with the airy texture of meringue.

Made by folding melted chocolate into whipped egg whites, this mousse has a delicate, light texture without losing any of the chocolate’s richness. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for entertaining. Garnish with whipped cream or chocolate shavings for an extra touch of indulgence.

Directions

1- Prepare your workspace (5 minutes):

Gather all the ingredients and necessary tools such as a double boiler, spatula, mixing bowls, and individual serving cups.

2- Melt the chocolate (10 minutes):

  • Break the dark chocolate into small pieces and place them in a heatproof bowl.
  • Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water (bain-marie), stirring occasionally until smooth.
  • Gradually add butter, stirring until fully combined.

3- Mix in egg yolks (2 minutes):

  • Remove the melted chocolate from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  • Stir in the egg yolks one at a time until the mixture is smooth.

4- Beat the egg whites (5 minutes):

  • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  • Gradually add sugar and continue whisking until the whites are firm and glossy, resembling meringue.

5- Combine chocolate and meringue (5 minutes):

Gently fold the melted chocolate mixture into the egg whites, using a spatula to keep the mixture light and airy.

6- Chill the mousse (5 minutes + 2 hours):

Divide the mousse into individual serving cups or a large bowl. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.

7- Serve and garnish (just before serving):

Top with whipped cream or chocolate shavings and a sprinkle of powdered sugar, if desired.

Note's

  • For extra richness, you can fold in whipped cream into the mousse after combining the chocolate and meringue.
  • If you prefer a firmer texture, you can add a small amount of gelatin dissolved in water to the melted chocolate mixture before folding in the egg whites.
