Beef with Caramelized Onions and Soy Sauce (1)

Descriptions

This Chinese-inspired dish of beef with caramelized onions is a simple yet flavorful meal that is perfect for a quick dinner. The soy sauce adds a savory depth to the caramelized onions, and the beef strips are perfectly tender. Serve this dish with noodles or rice to enjoy a restaurant-quality experience at home, impressing your family and friends.

Directions

1- Slice the onions into thin strips and cut the beef into matchsticks.

2- Prepare the broth by mixing the cornstarch into the chicken broth until dissolved.

3- Marinate the beef by mixing the beef with the soy sauce, sugar, and rice wine. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

4- Cook the beef: Heat a wok or pan over high heat for 30 seconds, add 2 tablespoons of peanut oil, wait 30 seconds, then add the beef with its marinade. Cook on high heat, stirring constantly for 5 minutes.

5- Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside on a plate.

6- Caramelize the onions: Add the remaining peanut oil to the wok, heat for 30 seconds, then add the onions. Stir-fry on high heat for 10-15 minutes until caramelized.

7- Combine: Add the beef back to the pan along with the cornstarch-broth mixture. Cook for another 3-5 minutes, stirring gently.

8- Finish by stirring in the sesame oil, then remove from heat. Serve hot with noodles or rice.

Note's

  • Substitute: If you don’t have rice wine, you can use dry sherry or white wine vinegar as an alternative.
  • Cooking tip: Make sure to keep the heat high when cooking the beef and onions for that perfect caramelization.
  • This dish pairs well with either steamed rice or stir-fried noodles.
